Useful websites

On the right hand side of my blog there is a list of great websites beneficial for teachers!

Throughout this first semester at uni, and through the use of our twibe on Twitter, I have found, used and been shown many websites extremely useful for teaching and learning. With the development of ICT and the increase of internet usage within the classroom, it is important for all teachers to increase their repertoire and knowledge of resources. I have been attempting to collect as many sites as I can which correspond to each key learning area in the current NSW Curriculum.

Teachers TV in both the UK and Australia have excellent videos of how different teaching strategies can be implemented within and outside of the classroom.

I believe that phonics is the basis for a lot of learning in the early years and Starfall is a great site, offered by many members of our Twibe, for the many stages of reading.

Brigade Kids is a great side for both teachers and parents and, not only does it teach kids about Fire Safety, it provides educators with wonderful resources to use in the classroom and great games for kids to use at home.

Crazy Hair Day was used as a resource for the PDHPE outcome which teaches children about their feelings and the feelings of others. The context of this book is great for primary school age children as the characters within the book and of a similar age. The book can also be narrated online by the author!

Time for Time is a great website for both children and teachers and provides us with lesson guides and worksheets as well as interactive clocks to teach the children various ways to read the time.

The British Council has put this fabulous "People in our community" song and it fits in so well for the HSIE outcome SSS1.8 - Identifies roles and responsibilities within families, schools and the local community, and determines ways in which they should interact with others. It could also be a great warm up song to get the children involved in the lesson!

I have also provided the sites of the NSW Board of Studies, NSW Institute of Teachers and the new Australian National Curriculum.
